Welcome
Welcome to the American Fencing Academy!
The Academy was founded in 2008 by Erik Schlagel, a veteran fencer and instructor in the
Farmington, NM and Durango, CO areas. He has taught Foil, Saber, Epee, Classical, and the
Schlagel Method. He teaches private lessons, Demos (including costumed performance incorporating the local
fencing community), For San Juan College, and for charity on occasion. Erik Schlagel is also
a founding member and instructor in training for Four Corners Systema.
The AFA is proud to promote the Durango, CO fencing club and direct people to it. The
Durango Fencing club contact person is Trish Grogan at the Fort Lewis College.
