POLICIES & PROCEDURES

The American Fencing Academy and affiliated instructors, recognizing that all areas of life are religious and that our actions reflect those beliefs, for better or worse, and so declare that it is our goal and duty to acknowledge God and his perfect law. It is our highest duty to honor our Creator, and so it is our intent that the atmosphere of our class time should reflect that. We humbly acknowledge that others may hold other beliefs and are entitled to exercise and express those beliefs as long as they do not infringe on the rights and property of others. In an attempt for excellence, in fairness to all families, and to avoid some problems we've had in the past, we ask that you read and abide by these Policies & Procedures. We serve a God of order, and we desire to operate this ministry with orderliness.

Thank you for your cooperation.

1. All students and their parent/guardian must read these policies, and sign a registration release form BEFORE participation will be allowed. "Guest" participation permitted ONLY with a signed release form.
2. TUITION is due before each class. Multiple classes can be paid for in advance. Please put fencer's name in the "memo" section of checks. Acceptable payment forms include Cash, check, and silver. We do not accept credit or debit cards yet.
3. Payment will be $10 (1 troy oz silver) per class, or $5 (.5 troy oz silver) if you supply your own gear. Please communicate any problems making your payment to avoid possibly losing your place in class. In the event of a returned check,
you will be assessed the same fees we incurred from the bank,
4. Tuition will NOT be prorated for any reason, including sickness, vacations, weather, or what have you.
5. Fees are NON REFUNDABLE.
6. We are not responsible for children outside of class; before or after their class time.
7. Students must be picked up promptly after class, or you may be assessed a fee of $5 for every 10 minutes you are late. Please call us at 360-0078 if you expect to be late.
8. Class placement is at the discretion of the individual instructors. Please address any questions or concerns, in private, to Erik.
9. Students and/or parents are responsible for receiving current NEWS and NOTICES on our website @ www.american-fencing-academy.com. Please reference our blog for the required info because all updates will be listed there.
10. All fencers should use the BATHROOM BEFORE class begins. Our staff will not prohibit any student from using the bathroom during class, however, it is a distraction to the structure of the class time.
11. Always bring a WATER BOTTLE, as we do not have a water fountain.
12. ***DRESS CODE*** (Please try to have a sense of modesty and be considerate when around the opposite sex.)
For the SAFETY of the students and instructors this dress code will be strictly enforced.
*NO sandals.
*No hanging jewelry.
*Pants and shirts should allow for movement, but should not have the appearance of falling off.
*Male fencers must wear an athletic cup or they will not be allowed to participate in some or all activities, for safety’s sake.
*It is strongly recommended that students bring a mouth guard, in case of an accident.
13. Parents are permitted to observe. Family members visiting from out of town are always welcome to observe in the studio. However, this provision may be waved and/or the student expelled if parent/family members are disrupting class in any way.
14. Students are expected to work hard, and respect instructors and fellow students. In the unlikely event that a student becomes a discipline problem, they may be asked to sit out of class, participate in extra drills or exercises, or if they habitually disrupt good order and shirk discipline, get removed from class and a letter of explanation may be sent to you regarding the situation. Discipline is at the instructor’s sole discretion.
15. NO unauthorized running, yelling, roughhousing, or chewing gum during class.
16. We reserve the right to dismiss a student or parent from the studio. Any student, who leaves or is dismissed, will NOT be refunded any tuition, deposits, or other monies.
17. The first class for any student is free of charge.
18. If you have any problems with how the class is being run, please bring it up with an instructor in private, either before or after class.
19. Some classes or drills may relate to guns or involve training guns of some sort, if this is an issue for you or you are concerned about it, please talk to Erik. Training guns are to be treated with respect, as if they were real. Safety violations and misuse of trainers will not be tolerated. These classes will have advance notification so that if you or your child does not want to participate. Your decision can be honored and you will have the opportunity to skip the class or classes.
20. This is a martial art and will be taught as such, we will cover sporting aspects, dueling, self-defense, and living history issues.
21. Please contact Erik with any questions or concerns either via our web site’s contact form, in person at a class, or by phone at: (505) 360-0078

Thank You!
